A Jodhpur court will finally announce the verdict on the blackbuck poaching case today. Back in 1998, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre and Tabu were arrested for poaching under the Wildlife Protection Act and the Indian Penal Code. This incident took place in September 1998. The Race 3 actor was accused of hunting two chinkaras at Bhawad in Mathania near Jodhpur on September 26, 1998, and another Chinkara at Ghoda farms two days later on September 28th, while he was in Jodhpur while shooting for Sooraj Barjatya’s Hum Saath Saath Hai. Salman Khan reportedly shot and killed two blackbucks while Saif, Sonali, Tabu and Neelam are accused of inciting him to poach the animals. October 2, 1998: Bishnoi community lodges complaint against Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Neelam and Tabu for killing blackbucks. April 19, 2006: Salman convicted in the black buck poaching case by one of the trial courts in Jodhpur. He was slapped with a fine of Rs 5000 and five years of imprisonment.
August 2007: The Rajasthan High Court suspended the sentence and asked Salman to not to leave the country without permission. He spent six days in jail before the sentence was suspended.
December 2012: Salman Khan charged with Section 9/51 of the Wildlife Protection Act.
August 2013: Actor’s UK visa gets denied due to the conviction charges.
November 2014: Salman requested the court to help him apply for the visa since it will affect his shooting schedules.
July 25, 2016: Salman gets acquitted of all charges in the blackbuck poaching case by the Rajasthan High Court.
November 11, 2016: SC sends notice to Salman on appeal by Rajasthan government challenging his acquittal.
April 5, 2018: Jodhpur court announced the verdict in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case. Salman Khan is convicted while the other’s involved (including Saif, Tabu, Neelam, Sonali) have been acquitted. An argument ensued between Salman’s lawyer and the prosecution over the quantum of punishment and the Chief Judicial Magistrate Dev Kumar Khatri is expected to announce the same soon.
