John Abraham starrer Satyameva Jayate was this year’s big Independence Day release. The film, directed by Milap Zaveri, has been performing well at the Box Office. Despite facing a strong clash with Akshay Kumar’s Gold, the film has managed to rake in enough moolah.

Satyameva Jayate minted an amount of Rs 3. 7 crore (approx) on Monday, August 20, as posted by trade analyst Joginder Tuteja on Twitter. The film opened to garner Rs 20. 52 crore followed by:

Rs 7.92 cr –  Thursday
Rs 9.18 cr – Friday
Rs 9.03 cr – Saturday
Rs 10.26 cr – Sunday

The total earnings of the film, which also features Manoj Bajpayee and Aisha Sharma in pivotal roles, stands at Rs 60. 61 crore (approx) so far. This is lesser than what Gold has minted at the Box Office. However, considering both the films cater to the mass audience and have cashed-in on a national holiday week, the amount collected by SJ can’t be undermined.

Gold, as per trade reports, raked in Rs 3. 75 crore (approx) on Monday, August 20.  The film, which is based on India winning its first gold medal as a free nation, had opened good and minted Rs 25. 25 crore (approx) on its opening day. The film then went on to garner the following:

Rs 8.10 cr – Thursday
Rs 10.10 cr – Friday
Rs 12.30 cr – Saturday
Rs 15.55 cr – Sunday

The total amount by Gold registered at the Box Office so far is Rs 75. 05 crore (approx).

Both the films have become the highest openers for their respective actors. John’s biggest opener at the Box Office in a solo lead was Force 2, as it earned Rs 5. 75 crore on its day 1. For Akshay Kumar, Singh Is Bliing, which released in 2015, was the biggest opener so far, that minted Rs 16. 98 crore on its opening day.

While Satyameva Jayate was released on around 2500 screens, Akshay’s sports drama acquired around 3050 screens in the country. Both the films are expected to maintain a steady pace in the coming days. At least till Friday, when Sonakshi Sinha’s comedy-drama, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi, hits the screens on August 24 this week.
