After Salman Khan, it is yet another Bollywood actor who is in trouble for making a comment on the ban on Pakistani actors after the Uri attacks by militants aided by the neighbouring country. While what Salman Khan said may be correct, that the Pakistani actors and artistes, be it Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Mawra Hocane or Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, work in India on a valid visa handed out by the Indian government, this comment has not met with a good response from Indians in general. First, actor Nana Patekar hit out at Salman Khan without naming him, saying that the soldiers of the Indian Army are the real heroes and that “we Bollywood actors are fake (heroes).” And now, Bollywood actor Om Puri is in trouble for his additional comment on the martyred soldiers of the Indian Army on the border. He was of the opinion that people voluntarily join the army and so there is no need to celebrate or remember their martyrdom. He also said that the India-Pakistan enmity cannot go on forever like Israel and Palestine. Also Read - Indian Army Recruitment 2021: Golden Chance to Become Officer With India Army, Salary Upto 2.17 Lakh | Check Post, Eligibility, Official Notification Here
Read what Om Puri said – it will shock you! “Who had asked the soldiers to join the army? Who told them to pick the weapons? Do you want India-Pakistan enmity to turn like Israel and Palestine, and fight for ages? India is home to crores of Muslims, there is no point in proving them for war. Several Indians have their relatives staying across the border and vice-versa, how can they fight a war with their cross-border families?” Although some of what the actor is saying makes sense, after this comment, Om Puri was trolled on Twitter by Indians. Also, a first information report (FIR) has been filed against Om Puri at the Andheri Police Station in Mumbai by one Prithvi Maske, who has requested for a sedition charge to be filed against the actor under Section 124[A]. Earlier, south Indian actress Ramya had been slapped with a sedition charge for saying that “Pakistan is not hell”. She had reacted to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s remark on Pakistan after she visited Pakistan on work and found that people there are similar to Indians. But this was before the Uri attack and the Baramulla attack by Pakistan, and the surgical strike by the Indian Army in Paksitan-Occupied Kashmir along the Line of Control. Wonder what Ramya has to say now!
Actor Anupam Kher, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporter, tweeted to Om Puri, “Dear #OmPuri ji. Mai aapki bahut izzat karta hoon. Lekin kal tv per desh ke sainik ke baare mein aapki baat sunkar bahut DUKH hua. #VerySad”.
