In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood, we come across many on-screen pairings, but some are so magical that it becomes difficult to blur the line between reel and real emotions. One such similar case is of an on-screen jodi that creates magic even today and creates magic like no other. This iconic duo is none other than Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. Their chemistry isn’t just cinematic; it’s pure nostalgia woven into the golden fabric of Hindi cinema.
What’s more impressive is that in over three decades, the Shah Rukh–Kajol pair has worked together in seven films, and not one of them has flopped.
Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan both made their film debut in the year 1992. Kajol’s first film was Bekhudi, while Shah Rukh debuted with Deewana. However, this iconic duo first shared the screen in Baazigar (1993). In this film, Shah Rukh Khan played a negative role opposite Kajol and Shilpa Shetty. The film turned out to be a superhit and established their unbeatable chemistry.
Later, the duo appeared together in 1995 with Karan Arjun, and later that year, the cult romantic blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (October), directed by Aditya Chopra, came out, which redefined Bollywood romance forever.
After DDLJ, audiences saw this iconic pair once again in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998. Not just Shah Rukh and Kajol but the trio of Shah Rukh, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji became an instant favourite, and was massively loved and appreciated. This film turned out to be a massive box-office hit.
Later, their magical pairing was again seen together in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor, and Hrithik Roshan in pivotal roles. This film also became another blockbuster. Even today, the film is remembered as one of Bollywood’s finest family dramas.
After a break of almost a decade, this beloved duo made its comeback and proved how their chemistry remains unmatched even after years. They came together for Karan Johar’s film My Name Is Khan, which was released in 2010. The film not only made a mark commercially but also was praised critically.
Last film in which Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol appeared together was Dilwale (2015). The film also featured Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. Although the film received mixed reviews, Shah Rukh and Kajol’s pairing was once again hailed as timeless.
