Mumtaz said, “Rajesh and Anju lived in the same house like husband and wife, they used to get up and sit together, eat and drink together — their relationship was no less than that of a husband and wife.”

The veteran actress added, “Yes, both of them were not married, but this relationship was no less than a marriage. They both loved each other very much.”

It is worth noting that Rajesh’s mother wanted him to get married soon, because he was 27 years old at that time. But when Rajesh proposed to Anju in 1971, she said that she wanted to postpone their marriage because she wanted to focus on building her career as an actress.
