The hate attacks on people of Indian origin in America have only increased in the recent past. Earlier this year, a 32-year old Indian engineer Srinivas Kuchibhotla was shot in Kansas. Another Indian-origin Harnish Patel was shot dead more recently. Deep Rai, a Sikh resident of Washington was also attacked by a gunman, who yelled, “go back to your own country”. And now, singer Chinmayi Sripaada, who is popular for her song Titli from Shah Rukh Khan – Deepika Padukone starrer Chennai Express was robbed while she was in San Fransisco. The glass of her car was smashed. Not just that, she also got robbed as she realised that there were few things missing from her car. In a series of tweets, the singer expressed her anger and also posted photos of her vandalised car. “So… I got robbed. Parked Car got vandalised in the USofA. TIL – leave nothing in the car.
I was standing right by the smashed glass and,” read Chinmayi’s first tweet. She continued by saying, “It took me 5 minutes to realize things were missing. She was naturally quite angry with whatever happened as she also tweeted, “I hope I get the stuff back. And seriously I hope I am done with nonsense. Like really. Over quota. God please go play with someone else.”

The situation could have gone worse, but thankfully a neighbour intervened and chased the thieves away.

We hope a strict action is taken against the culprits. For the uninitiated, apart from crooning Titli, Chinmayi has also sung Zehnaseeb from Hasee Toh Phasee among others.
