This Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor starrer was the first blow to the film goers in this year. The Aashiqui 2 jodi was back with a bang and their lovey-dovey antics in the trailer made us think that this might be an another treat from the lead stars. But, no. We were so wrong! The film was just a normal story that went on and on only to reach a predictable end! Also, it was a hindi remake of a Tamil hitmaker ‘Ok Kanmani’ and that made Tamil audience hate the movie more! The film’s lifetime collection is said to be around Rs 23 crores.
It’s a Vishal Bhardwaj film with eminent star cast of Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. What else do you need to make a film blockbuster, right? Well, unfortunately, this formula did not work this time on the silver screen. The film set in the backdrop of World War 2, did a little to impress the audience and instead turned out to be a snooze fest! The film raked in approximately Rs 32 crores in its lifetime worldwide.
This film was also one of those which was in the talks more because of the stars in it. With unique cast like Anushka Sharma, Diljit Dosanjh and Suraj Sharma, the film raised the expectations of the film goers. Also, it was Anushka’s home production which also gave amazing film like ‘NH 10’. Sadly, neither the humorous content nor the ‘friendly ghost’ could save the film from getting tanked! The film collected approximately Rs 51 crores at the ticket windows.
The Vidya Balan starrer period drama along with strong female cast had a very strong tale to tell. The national award winner director Srijit Mukherji had already had already won the appreciation for the original Bengali version of the film ‘Rajkahini’. Also, the film gained thorough attention due to Vidya Balan’s look as a prostitute who runs a brothel and her abusive language. After all, Indian audience is still not used to hear the lead actresses talking in this manner! Now despite all these plus points of the film, it failed! If we look at its box office collection, it managed to rake in Rs 28 crores.
Meri Pyaari Bindu
The trailer of the Parineeti Chopra and Ayushmann Khurrana was release in chapters and it was damn adorable. The snippets of songs from the RD Burman era, was another reason to hold on to this love story. But when the film released, it was far from the expectations of the audience. The film that was promoted in such an unique way had nothing different in the film! This is the reason why the film got thumbs down from the audience making the film collect only Rs 14 crores approximately! Ram Gopal Varma came back with a new star cast apart from the strong pillar- Amitabh Bachchan. The film also had stars like Yami Gautam and Amit Sadh and the trailer promised a bigger and better political drama. But, the film was way too predictable and dramatic which made the audience crib about the film and got negative reviews. Sadly, the film collected around Rs 14 crores only.
Well, do I even need to even start about this Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon starrer? The film was all over the news columns due to Sushant-Kriti’s chemistry, the re-incarnation plot and the infamous Magadheera controversy. To be honest, the trailer was quite attractive with two eras in one frame and the lovey dovey moments between Sushant and Kriti. How can we forget Deepika Padukone’s cameo in that sexy thigh high slit outfit? But all this was not enough for the movie to fair at the box office I guess! The film tanked terribly at the box office because of its boring and melodramatic content. The film minted only around Rs 21 crores.
These were some of the eye popping flops in these six months. Now, I’m afraid that Salman Khan starrer Tubelight will also join this bandwagon soon! What do you think?
