The film that talks about gender inclusivity and is a gay love story is set in a small town in India. It aims to challenge the taboos around the same-sex relationship that exist even when the Supreme Court of India has scrapped Section 377 that prohibited homosexuality. The film’s collection on its opening day was Rs 9.55 crore after which good word-of-mouth gave it an impressive push and the earnings rose to Rs 11.08 crore on Saturday and 12.03 crore on Sunday, taking the first-weekend total to Rs 32.66 crore.

Meanwhile, Ayushmann is mighty overwhelmed with the response of the audience to his film. In his latest interaction with Mid-day, he mentioned how his film has put India on a world map by being the first out-and-out commercial entertainer about homosexuality and gender inclusivity. Ayushmann was quoted saying, “We have impacted the mindset of people. We have brought this important conversation out, and encouraged families to discuss it. With this, we have put an Indian film on same-sex relationships, on the global map.”
