Bollywood playback singer Meena Kapoor has passed away in the early hours of November 23, Thursday. The singer who was famous for her songs like “Rasiye Re Mann Basiya Re” and “Meri Jaan Sunday Ke Sunday.” Her saddening demise took place in her Kolkata home. However, it is known that Meena had been paralysed for the past few months. Confirming the singer’s demise, her stepdaughter Shikha Vora, her late husband’s daughter from his first wife, told The Indian Express, “I got a message today informing that she is no more. She died at 2.20 am this morning. We don’t know the reason but she was paralysed for a long time. We hadn’t been in touch with her for the past few years, since the day she left for Kolkata. Meena Kapoor was the second wife of late music composer Anil Biswas, with whom she tied the knot in 1959. She had associated with SD Burman for her first recorded song, which was for the film Aath Din (1946). It was in the next year, that she recorded one of her most memorable songs “Meri Jaan Sunday Ke Sunday” in Shehnai, composed by C Ramchandra. Some of Meena’s other hits included “Kachchi Hai Umariya”, “Kuchh Aur Zamana Kehta Hai” and “Ab Laagi Naahi Chhote Rama”.
