Singer Sou Nigam who has been in the news for making some blasmephous statements against Islamlic prayer, Azaan, has swiftly risen to the ranks of the most controversial figure in the country today. While his sentiments against Azaan (a call on the loudspeaker for religious prayer in the mosque) was perceived as anti-Islamic, he made it clear that he was against noise pollution cause by not just azaan but also because of Hindu prayers such as aartis and loud processions. He had already offended a lot of people and that propelled a maulavi in Bengal to declare a Rs 10 cr prize to a person successful in shaving off Sonu’s head.

Well, the singer took it upon himself to stand by the statement made by him and went bald. Well, this led to a lot of furor in the country and made masses comment on it. One such youngster from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh too dared to express his opinion on his Facebook page supporting Sonu and his stand. In fact he wrote that he would only listen to the songs of this singer henceforth. Well, this led to religious fanatics following him to his house and trying to kill him in cold blood. There was a subsequent knife fight and the victim is now admitted to hospital. He has come out unharmed from the whole thing but it is really shocking that Indians have become so intolerant that they would go to any lengths to dimish dissent.

Sonu’s controversial statement read thus: God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India. And by the way Mohammed did not have electricity when he made Islam.. Why do I have to have this cacophony after Edison?
