Sonu Nigam is at the receiving end of Twitterati since morning. For those of you who don’t know, the story goes something like this. So after being wakened Azaan, the singer-actor took to Twitter and slammed the practice. So displeased was Sonu by the sound of Azaan that he termed it as “forced religiousness”. He did not understand why electricity and loudspeakers were used to wake up people who do not follow their religion. Sonu wanted to know when this “forced religiousness would end in India?” Sonu then went on a Twitter rant as he put out a series of tweets on the subject and even questioned, “Why do I have to have this cacophony after Edison?” Obviously, these tweets didn’t go down well with a lot of people, who started slamming him on the micro-blogging sites. Basically, Sonu has landed himself in a controversy, and he will be in the news for quite a while. Check out what he had to say on Twitter right here:
God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India

And by the way Mohammed did not have electricity when he made Islam.. Why do I have to have this cacophony after Edison?

I don’t believe in any temple or gurudwara using electricity To wake up people who don’t follow the religion . Why then..? Honest? True?

Dear @sonunigam ji, It’s just the noise of prayers which is waking you up, there are many countries where bullets & bombs will do the same.

But there were some, who supported Sonu’s views too. Check them out:
So Sonu Nigam is already being declared a bigoted struggling singer. Slow claps for liberalism in India pic.twitter.com/dvtDsWkupM

Dear Sonu Nigam,
Please be ready to be tagged as a Sanghi and communal.
People may also call u jobless and useless singer looking for fame.— Mudit Agarwal (@muditag85) April 17, 2017
I stand with Sonu Nigam. Loudspeakers MUST stop. They not only cause inconvenience but only pose severe health hazards.
