Sridevi, Draped in Red Saree & Tricolour, Cremated in Mumbai Amid Teary-Eyed Fans, Family, Friends And Bollywood Colleagues

Sridevi, the actor who ruled the movies for years, was cremated amid thousands of teary-eyed fans, family and colleagues, in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Mumbai, Feb 28: Sridevi, the actor who ruled the movies for years, was cremated amid thousands of teary-eyed fans, family and colleagues, in Mumbai on Wednesday. Draped in a red silk saree and the tricolour, the first female superstar of Bollywood, Sridevi, was cremated at Vile Parle Seva Samaj Crematorium and Hindu Cemetery after being given state honours today at Celebration Sports Club. Sridevi’s fans, Bollywood celebrities and family members paid their last respects to her at the Celebration Sports Club where the actor’s mortal remains were kept for tributes. Fans, who had gathered outside since 5 am in the morning to get one last glimpse of their favourite actress, paid an emotional tribute to the late actor with flowers and photographs of her that some of them had collected for years.

While the Kapoor family, including Boney Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and others were present at the venue, stars came in to offer prayers. Sridevi’s daughters Jhanvi and Khushi were also present. Among stars who came to pay their respects were Kajol, Ajay Devgan, Madhuri Dixit Nene and her husband, Farh Khan, Tabu, Sushmita Sen, Saroj Khan, Deepika Padukone, Hema Malini and many others.

As Sridevi’s final journey began at 2 pm from Sports Club to the crematorium, many fans broke down seeing the mortal remains of their favourite star being taken in a truck decorated with flowers and a life size picture of her. Family members including Anil Kapoor’s son Harshwardhan and her step son Arjun Kapoor were seen by the side of Sridevi’s mortal remains on the truck.

Thousands of fans, who could not pay their respects to the actor at the Celebration Sports Club, gathered on the route of Sridevi’s final journey, to see her for the final time. Fans came not just from Mumbai, but other parts of the country too. Some shared what they love about the superstar, some spoke about their experience of having met Sridevi.

The Mumbai Police personnel were on their toes to ensure that Sridevi’s final journey concludes without any hindrance. At 3:30 pm, Sridevi’s final journey concluded at Vile Parle Seva Samaj Crematorium and Hindu Cemetery, where she was cremated. Bollywood celebrities including Shah Rukh Khan, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, Arjun Rampal among many others were present at the crematorium.

Sridevi died late on Saturday night at a hotel room in Dubai where she, along with the entire Kapoor family and a host of Bollywood celebrities, had gone for the wedding of her nephew Mohit Marwah. Her mortal remains were brought to Mumbai from Dubai by husband Boney Kapoor and step son Arjun Kapoor on Tuesday night.
