Suchitra Krishnamoorthi SLUT Shamed For Criticizing Azaan

 The 41-year-old actress-singer is attracting the most abusive comments over the 'azaan' issue

Suchitra Krishnamoorthi evoked angry reactions from all quarters after she took to Twitter on Monday to rant about how Azaan was nothing but an ‘extreme imposed religiosity’. Ever since the former wife of Bollywood director Shekhar Kapur passed the comment, she has been getting hate messages from people at large, calling her ‘dumb’, ‘lowlife’ and ‘low IQ’ on social networking sites. However, what shocked us more is that Suchitra is being slut shamed for her derogatory comment.

The actress took to Twitter to share a photo compilation of the perverse comments she has been since receiving. She wrote, “Look at these perverts! Feel sorry for my India -with this kind of attitude towards women its no wonder we’ve become rape capital of d world.”

Irked by her comments on Azaan, State Samajwadi Party President Abu Asim Azmi maligned Suchitra’s character earlier this week with his sexist comments. He said, “Those who sing and dance till early hours, drink at 2 a.m. in parties in hotels, and sit with their arms on shoulders of strange men and talk, who have spoilt Indian culture have suddenly started criticising.”

He even told a news channel, “Women who party late till the night, sing and dance and have their hand around shoulders of other men should not talk about the country’s culture.” Although the actress gave it back to Abu Asim Azmir by calling him a national shame, the Samajwadi Party leader’s sexist comments have given way to numerous other men who have been slut shaming Suchitra for her forthright comment on religion. Early Sunday morning Suchitra had tweeted, “Came home at 4.45 a.m. to most aggressive/ear shattering call of ‘azaan’. Nothing more lowlife and dumb than such extreme imposed religiosity.”As she was trolled for her tweet, she posted yet another one, defending herself, which read, “I wake up at Brahmamuhurt of my own accord & do my prayers & riyaz & yoga. I dont need public loudspeakers to remind me of my God or my duty.” She is the second celebrity, after Sonu Nigam, who started a controversy over the Azaan issue.
