On Monday, the Supreme Court has said the people need not stand up in cinema halls during the national anthem to prove their patriotism. While Supreme Court seems to make sense, this decision of SC hasn’t gone down well with many celebrities from the film fraternity as they took to their respective social media accounts to write their opinions on the same.
Filmmaker and actor, Arbaaz Khan is not too pleased with the top court’s decision, as he said although the SC has not mandated a citizen to stand up while the National Anthem is being played at public places, he will always get up to pay his respect to it. The actor, during the trailer launch of his upcoming film ‘Tera Intezaar’, said, “Irrespective of Supreme court’s decision that says that we do not need to stand up for National Anthem when played in the theatre, I will always stand up for it.” He further added, “My mind is conditioned that way, it is a practice for me, so whenever I hear National Anthem, I will automatically stand up, no matter what, and it is in my headspace.”
Arbaaz’ leading lady in the film, Sunny Leone, was present at the launch too. She opined, “I think patriotism is one of those emotions that come from within, it comes from the heart. Besides Arbaaz and Sunny, the decision also has disappointed celebrities like Arvind Swamy, Adnan Sami, among others. While Arvind Swamy tweeted, “I will always stand up for our Natl Anthem & sing along, which I do with great pride. Never understood why it ws mandatory n cinema halls only”, adding that, “Why not everyday in all govt offices, courts, before assembly, and parliament sessions?”, Adnan Sami wrote on his Twitter handle, “Hey, it’s the National Anthem; GET UP…PERIOD! Go argue about something else!”
Meanwhile, Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan, supporting the top court’s decision, said that standing up for the National Anthem at ‘random places’ like cinema halls does not testify patriotism.

Helmed by Raajeev Walia, Tera Intezaar stars Arya Babbar and Gauahar Khan in pivotal roles, besides Arbaaz and Sunny. The film is slated to release on November 24.
