With the festive season just around the corner, there is already joy and celebration in the air. However, to add to this celebration, two major releases will be in the spotlight this Dussehra. This year, two highly anticipated films will face off at the box office. However, the clash between these two films will not be just about content but also audience loyalty, bookings, and the growing influence of regional cinema in the Hindi belt. The films that we are talking about are none other than Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari and Kantara Chapter 1.
On one side, we have Shashank Khaitan’s film, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, featuring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles, alongside Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, Maniesh Paul, and Akshay Oberoi. The plot of this film revolves around two characters trying to win back their exes, promising a fun blend of romance and comedy. The bookings for this film opened on Sunday, four days before its release, and by Monday noon, it had sold nearly 9,000 tickets nationwide. As per reports, the film collected Rs 29.32 lakh through advance sales. While it is good for a rom-com, industry insiders feel it is slightly lower than what is expected from a festive release. However, films in this genre often rely heavily on word of mouth, and the makers hope the momentum will pick up closer to release.
On the other side stands Kantara Chapter 1. The film is written and directed by Rishab Shetty. Set ten centuries before the original Kantara, which became a sensation in 2022, the prequel dives deep into the origins of the mythology that shaped the first film’s narrative. In this film, Rishabh Shetty himself will play a role, joined by actors Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah. The film, though originally in Kannada, has already made waves with its Hindi dub. As per reports, by Monday noon, the Hindi version
By Monday noon, the Hindi version had sold over 11,000 tickets in booking, grossing Rs 33 lakh. This performance has already put it ahead of the Bollywood multi-starrer even before its release.
As per trade experts, only a few screens have been allotted so far; Kantara Chapter 1 is expected to grow at a faster pace once its reach expands. Speaking of the original film’s success, it crossed over Rs 84 crore, and now its Hindi dub is creating a lot of buzz. For now, it seems that the Rishab Shetty epic is pulling ahead of Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s romantic comedy in this high-stakes festive clash.
