Swedish DJ and electronic music producer DJ Avicii was found dead in Muscat, Oman on early Friday. He was 28 and his sudden demise has come as a shock to his fans, family and friends. The news was released through a statement by his the young DJ’s agent Diana Baron, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii.”

The statement also said that the family is devastated and expects that everyone respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. “No further statements will be given,” Baron said. While the cause of death is not known, Avicci (real name Tim Bergling) had suffered serious health problems due to excessive drinking. He also had to be hospitalized for 11 days in 2012 due to acute pancreatitis. In fact, he wanted to take a break from music and touring to tender to his health and had said in an interview that he has taken too much negative energy while working on music.

On the DJ’s sudden demise, his ex-girlfriend Emily Goldberg, who had dated Avicci for two years, posted an emotional and heartwarming message. In her post, where she shared a series of pictures of the two of them in good times, she said, “Come on babe, don’t give up on us. Choose me, and I’ll show you love.” Those are lyrics from a song Tim wrote for me. I wish I could have lived up to them.” Further reminiscing about her time together with Avicci, Emily said, “For the two years we were together, he was my closest confidante, and my best friend. Now I can’t look at Bear without knowing I’ll never see his face again. I’m still collecting my thoughts and thank you for all your kind words and texts. Wake me up when it’s all over, because I don’t want it to be real 💔 #ripavicii #avicii @avicii (sic).”

Avicii, who gained worldwide fame with smash hits like Levels, Wake Me Up, and Hey Brother and was known for his
collaborations with artists like Coldplay, David Guetta, Lenny Kravitz, Robbie Williams, Skrillex, and Rita Ora was nominated for the Billboard Music Awards 2018 just four days ago in the Top Dance/Electronic Album category.
