Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s latest horror comedy, “Thamma,” has maintained a strong hold since its opening day. Thanks to advance bookings, it was a smash hit in theaters on its first day. After a strong second day, it continued to earn impressive numbers on its third day. Meanwhile, “Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat,” which released alongside it, is very close to recovering its budget. Let’s find out how much both films have earned.
Following Stree, Bhediya, Munjya, and Stree 2, director Aditya Sarpotdar’s Thamma continues Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy franchise. The film is a tale of the demonic species and combines supernatural elements with humor. However, the film’s story and comic punches aren’t particularly strong. If they were stronger, it could have been another unique addition to the horror-comedy universe.
The film tells the story of Alok Goyal (Ayushmann Khurrana), who goes trekking in dense forests. He is attacked by a bear and then saved by a mysterious girl, Tadka (Rashmika Mandanna). Tadka belongs to a race of immortal demons with supernatural powers who once survived by drinking human blood.
The demons are led by the evil leader Yakshashasan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), and Tadka was imprisoned in a cave for a hundred years. The story takes a turn when Alok and Tadka fall in love, but Tadka realizes she cannot be part of the human world. When Alok meets with an accident, Tadka drinks his blood to save him, turning him into a demon too. Yakshashasan is released, and the threat to humanity returns.
Speaking of Thamma, made on a budget of around ₹145 crore, it may be earning well but is still far from recovering its cost. According to a Sacnilk report, Thamma, which earned ₹24 crore on its first day, collected ₹12.50 crore on Thursday, its third day. Overall, the film has earned around ₹55.10 crore in India so far. As for its worldwide collection, it has reportedly grossed around ₹69 crore.
Speaking of Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, the film earned around ₹6 crore on its third day. Overall, the film has grossed approximately Rs 22.75 crore in three days. Worldwide, it has earned around Rs 27–28 crore so far. However, final collections are still awaited. This means the film will likely surpass its budget by this weekend — which is why, despite earning less than Thamma, it appears to be winning at the box office.
