Actor Taapsee Pannu starrer Thappad saw a good jump in the collection at the Box Office on Sunday. The film, directed by Anubhav Sinha, has got a thumbs up from both the audience and the critics and that seems to be translating into numbers now. Thappad earned Rs 6.54 crore on Thursday, taking its first weekend total to Rs 14.66 crore.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh released the latest Box Office figures of Thappad on Twitter. He wrote, “#Thappad has decent weekend… #Delhi, #NCR, #Mumbai contribute, compensate for the non-performance beyond metros… Healthy growth on Day 3 is a plus… Important to put up respectable numbers on weekdays… Fri 3.07 cr, Sat 5.05 cr, Sun 6.54 cr. Total: ₹ 14.66 cr. #India biz.” (sic)

Thappad features Taapsee in the role of a housewife who raises her voice against domestic violence because there’s no place for violence in a marriage even if it’s just ‘one slap.’ The buzz around the film was already high ever since the trailer hit the screens. With the film getting good word-of-mouth on social media, Thappad has now emerged as an important story that was needed to be made for a society where women are subjected to both emotional and physical violence every day in most relationships.

Thappad reunited Taapsee with Sinha for the second time after Mulk. This is the director’s third consecutive outing with socially relevant cinema. Earlier last year, Sinha made Article 15 with Ayushmann Khurrana that talked about discrimination on the basis of gender, caste, language and race.
