A Telugu movie, starring Rashmika Mandanna, has recently impressed audiences with its emotional story and strong performances. People have been discussing it for its honest portrayal of modern relationships and the challenges that come with love, trust and personal boundaries. The film received good attention during its theatrical run, and many viewers who missed it in cinemas have been waiting for it to be released online. The story is simple, relatable, and made in a way that connects well with a wide range of viewers.
The movie is called The Girlfriend, and its OTT release is now confirmed. It will be available to stream on Netflix from 5 December 2025. To make it accessible for viewers across different regions, the film will be offered in Telugu along with dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.
Directed by Rahul Ravindran, the film stars Rashmika Mandanna in the lead role, with Dheekshith Shetty playing the male lead. Actors like Anu Emmanuel and Rao Ramesh also appear in important supporting roles. The story centres on a young woman named Bhooma, who enters what she believes is a loving relationship. But as time passes, she begins to face emotional pressure, control and behaviour that affects her mental peace.
The Girlfriend highlights how a relationship that starts with affection can slowly turn unhealthy. It shows how manipulation, insecurity and emotional abuse can build up over time, leaving a person confused and hurt. The film follows Bhooma’s struggle to understand what is happening and her journey toward finding strength and clarity.
The movie has been appreciated for presenting real human emotions instead of exaggerated drama. Rashmika’s performance is heartfelt and believable, especially in scenes showing vulnerability and emotional pain. Dheekshith Shetty portrays the complicated nature of his character in a convincing manner, showing how charm can turn into possessiveness.
The film released in theatres on 7 November 2025 and collected about Rs 1.3 crore on its first day. After around ten days, the domestic net reached nearly Rs 15.4 crore. By the end of its theatrical run, the worldwide gross was around Rs 30 crore, but despite these numbers, the movie was still considered an underperformer overall.
