At a teenage age, Khan lost both of his parents. His father died of cancer in 1981 and mother died from complication of diabetes in 1991.
After a few years, Khan left Delhi and shifted to Mumbai to enter the entertainment industry. Initially, he started his career as a TV actor. He appeared in popular serials like Circus and Fauji. Later, after a long struggle, he made his Bollywood debut in 1992 with Deewana. But he gained popularity with the film Baazigar, released in 1993. Later, with hits like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Dil To Pagal Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Mohabbatein (2000), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Veer-Zaara, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Shah Rukh Khan established himself as romantic hero and gave a series of top-grossing romantic films.
Shah Rukh Khan’s fan base started growing massively. During the opening day of the 1994 romantic drama which was directed by Kundan Shah, the actor started a new trend. He sat at the advance ticket booking window and signed autographs on tickets which he sold to the audience. This became a trend in 1994 and other celebrities started following it too as a promotional strategy.
While growing up, SRK used to admire Bollywood superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Dilip Kumar, Deva Anand and Mumtaz. In fact, the actor was compared to Deva Anand when he played a role of tourist guide, that was said to be inspired by the legendary actor’s role in Vijay Anand’s Guide.
While talking about his film failures, SRK has had at least dozen box office flops. But, the actor had more hits than flops. After the failure of his 2018-released film Zero, Khan said he didn’t want to ack and even backed out of a film at the last minute, which he called very ‘unprofessional of himself.’ After Zero, he took a break from acting. After five years, he made a comeback with blockbusters like Pathaan, Jawaan and Dunki in 2023.
Talking about his personal life, Shah Rukh got married to Gauri Chibber on October 25, 1991. The couple first met a party where Shah Rukh was 18 and Gauri was merely 14. After dating for six years, Shah Rukh and Gauri decided to take their relationship to the next level. The challenge was to convince Gauri’s parents for marriage as SRK was a Muslim and she was a Hindu Brahmin. However, after sharing their highs and lows, the couple finally got married and Gauri took on the surname as Khan.
Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan’s family expanded with the arrival of three wonderful children- Aryan Khan, Suhana Khan and AbRam Khan.
