A young actor from our film industry rose to fame in the early 1990s with a hit film that made him an overnight sensation. His debut film became a massive success, making him a household name, but his career was full of challenges. After initial success, he faced a series of ups and downs in both his professional and personal life. The actor is Rahul Roy.
The actor and his blockbuster hit debut movie
Rahul Roy made his acting debut in Mahesh Bhatt’s Aashiqui in 1990, where he starred alongside debutant Anu Aggarwal. The film became an instant success. In an interview, the actor shared that, following the film’s release, in just 11 days, he signed about 47 films. He said, “For six months, I didn’t get anything. But then in 11 days, I signed 47 films.” He also mentioned that he was given Rs 30,000 as his fee for his first movie.
The actor starred in television shows
While Aashiqui shot him to stardom, his next few films, including Ghazab Tamasha, Sapne Sajan Ke, Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee, Game, Gumrah, Majhdaar, Naseeb and Achanak, failed to make a home in the audience’s hearts. Despite the setbacks, Rahul Roy never lost his passion for acting. He continued to pursue his craft through television shows like Kaise Kahoon and Karishma: The Miracles Of Destiny. However, his career took a significant turn with Bigg Boss in 2006. He won the first season of the show.
The actor’s personal life
Rahul Roy was born to Deepak Roy and Indira Roy in 1966. Throughout his career, Rahul Roy faced numerous challenges – both professional and personal. He took a break from movies and shows and moved to Australia for his wife, Rajlaxmi Khanvilkar. It was later revealed that during his time there, he allegedly worked as a dishwasher. In 2014, the couple divorced and the actor returned to India. In 2020, the actor suffered a brain stroke while filming LAC – Live The Battle in Ladakh. His sister, Priyanka Roy, revealed that Salman Khan quietly helped them by settling the pending hospital bills.
