In the world of entertainment, sometimes, an actor is not born of ambition but of necessity. The actor we are talking about had a different dream; he wanted to run his own garment business, but destiny had its own plans. Today, he is enchanting the audience with his brilliant performances and talent.
Despite being the son of a renowned celebrity, this actor decided to enter the film industry only to pay off his mother’s loan of Rs 25,000, which she had taken without informing his father. The actor is Saravanan Sivakumar AKA Suriya.
After finishing his studies, he worked as a trainee at a garment export factory, where he did not reveal his identity as Sivakumar’s son and earned about Rs 1200. In an interview, he recalled, “They were not aware that I was an actor’s son. My monthly salary was then Rs 1200. I worked for nearly three years. By this time, my salary had been raised to Rs 8,000.”
He revealed that he entered the film industry to settle his mother’s Rs 25,000 loan. He said, “Mom said that our bank balance had never been more than one lakh or one and a half lakh, and dad never insisted on his salary; he would just wait for it to come when it did. At that time, dad hadn’t worked continuously for more than six months or ten months. He mentioned that he was deeply affected by his mother’s struggles, saying, “When I saw my mom struggling to pay that amount, it hit me hard. I thought to myself, ‘What am I doing?'”
In 1995, he was offered the lead role by Vasanth in his film Aasai. He, however, rejected the offer, citing a lack of interest in an acting career and the offer went to Ajith Kumar. He later debuted in Vasanth’s Nerrukku Ner in 1997.
The actor’s net worth is estimated to be around Rs 350 crore, including his residences in Chennai and Mumbai, along with his collection of luxury vehicles. Suriya’s latest film, Kanguva, has achieved remarkable success, marking the highest opening of his career. Reportedly, after an eight-week run, the film has accumulated Rs 64.30 crore.
