In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood, many stars come and go, while some shine for a while and fade away in obscurity, others shine bright, and their fortune changes overnight. One such example of this is Bollywood’s superstar, who stands among the highest-paid actors in India today. Known for his films that redefine cinema and a strong social message, this actor is none other than the Bollywood perfectionist, aka Amir Khan. However, what many might not know is that before Aamir Khan became one of the most bankable stars, he had humble beginnings and struggles.
Before ruling the big screen, Aamir Khan started his film career as a child artist in 1973 with the classic Yaadon Ki Baaraat. He was just eight years old then. As Aamir Khan grew up, his curiosity in filmmaking grew even more, and later he decided to understand the craft more deeply.
Later he went on to assist his uncle, the late filmmaker Nasir Hussain, in a few films. This behind-the-scenes exposure gave him a deeper understanding of direction, production, and acting.
Aamir Khan made his debut as the lead actor in 1988 with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, opposite Juhi Chawla. Directed by Mansoor Khan and produced by his uncle Nasir Hussain, the film became a blockbuster and a turning point for Hindi cinema. It introduced a new kind of romance and made Aamir the nation’s new heartthrob overnight.
However, what many might not know is that for this career-defining film of Aamir Khan, he received only Rs 1,000 per month. Since the shoot lasted for almost a month, he only earned Rs 11,000 for his debut role. He even shared in one of his interviews that he wasn’t bothered by his modest fees; rather, he was only thrilled to be working in film and following his dreams.
After the massive success of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, there was no turning back for Aamir Khan. He gave a streak of hits after that, like Dil, Raja Hindustani, Lagaan, Fanaa, Taare Zameen Par, Ghajini, Dangal, and PK, among others.
His last film was Sitare Zameen Par, which was released in June 2025 and once again turned out to be a box-office success, further cementing Aamir Khan’s image of “Mr Perfectionist.”
