Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, ‘The King of Romance’ was a title given to this actor who hated it, considering that it was a sarcastic comment on his personal life. Well, we are talking about Tamil superstar Gemini Ganesan, who remained in headlines due to his relationships. One of his daughters, born from his extramarital affair, later became a Bollywood superstar.
Gemini Ganesan was called the ‘King of Romance’ in Tamil cinema because of his romantic roles. He made his debut with the film Miss Malini in 1947 before India became independent. His pairing opposite actress Pushpavalli in debut film became superhit. After playing the lead role in Manam pola Mangalyam, he rose to stardom and went on delivering superhits. The actor has done over 200 films and became the undisputed king of Tamil box office. The Government of India honoured him Padma Shri in 1971 for his amazing contribution in the field of arts. He was considered the first true superstar of Indian cinema.

His personal life, more than professional, used to make major headlines. Ganesan was married several times, first to Alamelu in 1940 and then to Savitri in 1952. Before his marriage to Savitri, the actor had already been in a serious relationship with her debut actress Pushpavalli. In 1954, Pushpavalli gave birth to Bhanurekha Ganesa who later came to be known as Rekha. The actor became father of 7 daughters and one son from these relationships. According to media reports, he married Juliana Andrew for the first time in the year 1998.
According to reports, the actor has 4 daughters from his first wife. He has a son and a daughter from his second wife Savitri. He has two daughters from his extramarital affairs, one of whom is Rekha and the other is Radha. Ganesan did mention about his relationships in his autobiography Vaazhkai Padagu. “Somehow I seemed to attract women who were in distress.” He also felt annoyed by the title of “King of Romance” as it “was used to brush him in black in his personal life.”
