This actress was labelled a 'villain' and 'other woman' as she was in a relationship with a married superstar.

Veteran actress Sarika began her career at the age of seven as a child artist. Her first film was the late filmmaker BR Chopra’s Humraaz in 1967. After appearing in slew of other films like Aashirwad, Satrakam, Balak and Beti before making her debut as an adult actress in Kaagaz Ki Nao in 1975. Over the years, Sarika has experienced many highs and lows in her personal life. However, what you might not know is that she went through a financial crisis following her divorce from superstar Kamal Haasan.

In 2000, Kamal had confessed that he and Sarika did try to end their relationship many times as he was a married man, but destiny had other plans. According to a report by news 18, Sarika did have a child out of wedlock. In early 1990s, she had a daughter named Shruti Haasan with Kamal Hassan. They were in a relationship, but weren’t married at the time. Later, Haasan divorced his first wife, Vani Ganapathy, and married Sarika. They had their second daughter Akshara, in the year 1991. However, their marriage didn’t last too long, and they filed for divorce in 2002.

After the divorce, Sarika had to restart her career from scratch. In an old interview with Simi Garewal, Sarika shared that she was left with just Rs 60 and a car. “I just did something that was honestly good for me and my mother. It had to be done. It comes after a lot….you don’t make such decisions overnight. I left with Rs 60 and my car,” she shared.

When Simi asked Kamal why he didn’t help his former wife financially, he shared, “When I became close to her, I was shocked to see, there was a little bit of sympathy and admiration. She didn’t want that sympathy. She found it very insulting when someone like me asked if she needed help.” he added. Kamal also mentioned that Sarika would refuse taking any sort of financial help from the actor.

Sarika made her comeback with the Amazon Prime web series Modern Love Mumbai in 2020. She was last seen in Sooraj Barjatya’s Uunchai.
