This veteran actress had played the role of a mother and then grandmother in several films. Her two daughters have also made a mark with their craft in Indian cinema.

This actress acted in over 120 films in nearly six decades of her career. She was also an activist and President of the National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW). The actress is best known for her memorable roles in the Hindi films Gol Maal and Khubsoorat, and played impeccable roles in films like Koshish, Umrao Jaan, Mirch Masala, and Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho! We are talking about veteran actress Dina Pathak, who played the role of a mother and then grandmother in several films.

Born on March 4, 1992, in Amreli, Gujarat, Pathak started her professional career at an early age. She starred in several plays as a teenager and also won appreciation from critics. Dina made her debut with the Gujarati film Kariyawar in 1948. In 1957, she performed Mena Gujarati in front of then-President, Dr Rajendra Prasad at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi, making history for it to become the only Gujarati play to achieve the feat so far.

The actress was later seen in Satyakam (1969), Saat Hindustani (1969), The Guru (1969) among other films. After continuing to act in plays for years, Pathak performed her own theatre group ‘Natmandal’ in Ahmedabad. Even today, people remember her as a loyal and hardworking performer. One of Dina’s most memorable comedies is Deepa Mehta’s Bollywood/Hollywood. She was nominated for the best actress in a supporting role at the 23rd Genie Awards for her performance.

Talking about her personal life, the veteran actress got married to Baldev Pathak, who ran a clothes shop near the gateway of India in Mumbai. According to a report by NDTV, Pathak use to stich clothes for stars like Dilip Kumar and Rajesh Khanna. The couple has two daughters- Ratna Pathak and Supriya Pathak. Noted actors of Hindi cinema Naseeruddin Shah and Pankaj Kapur are her sons-in-law.

Dina Pathak died of a heart attack on 11 October 2022, at the age of 80, in Bandra, Mumbai at her daughter’s residence.
