Bollywood designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla reveal the untold story behind Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s secret nikah, shedding light on the rushed and unconventional wedding.

Bollywood has seen many iconic couples, but few were as talked-about as Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh. Despite a 12-year age gap and very different backgrounds, Saif, from a royal lineage and Amrit, from a political-military family, their love story captured attention. Bollywood designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla recently opened up about the wedding on Namrata Zakaria’s YouTube channel. According to them, the couple’s ceremony was a nikah, with Amrita even changing her name to Ajiza Abu Jani for the event.

“We were witnesses to the nikah,” the designers revealed. “One day, they came to us and said they wanted to get married immediately. Saif was ready, but Amrita seemed a little confused. They had only been together for 6–8 months, and she was still hesitant.”

Abu Jani and Sandeep shared that the ceremony was intimate and rushed. “We were staying in a single room with a friend who hosted the nikah. We dressed Amrita up as best as we could and called in a Maulvi for the ceremony.”

The designers also mentioned that a Sardarji Pandit was present during the nikah. Amrita’s attire was simple, as there was little time to prepare, though she brought some of her mother’s beautiful jewellery. Saif, meanwhile, wore a traditional bandhgala.

“During the ceremony, the Maulvi asked Amrita her name, which needed to start with ‘A’,” Abu Jani said. “The Sardarji suggested ‘Ajiza.’ She was practically a runaway bride, hurriedly dressed, and in the end, even her mother called to intervene, but finally, everyone accepted the wedding.”
