Bollywood had a unique magic during the 80s and 90s era. The actors and actresses of that time had their own charm and were known for their powerful performances. Among them was Smita Patil, an iconic actress who captivated audiences with her performances and became one of the most beloved actresses in the industry. While Patil made headlines for her professional achievements, her personal life was also a topic of discussion among the public.
Smita created a buzz when news of her relationship with Bollywood actor Raj Babbar surfaced. The couple were romantically involved despite Raj being married to Nadira. Their feelings grew so intense that Raj decided to divorce his first wife and married Smita in 1983.
However, did you know that Smita’s parents were never supportive of their daughter’s relationship with Raj? According to her biography Smita Patil: A Brief Incandescence, Smita’s mother strongly opposed the relationship. She didn’t want her daughter to be responsible for breaking another woman’s home. Despite this, Smita and Raj’s relationship didn’t last long. Tragically, after three years of marriage, Smita passed away at the age of 31 due to complications during childbirth. After her passing, over 10 of her films were released posthumously. Raj and Smita had a son, Prateik Babbar, who has also entered Bollywood, making his debut in 2008.
As for Raj, he also has a daughter from his first marriage. Raj Babbar and Nadira married in 1975, and in 1976, they welcomed their first child, Juhi Babbar. Over the decades, Raj has delivered several hit films, including Insaaf Ka Tarazu, Hum Paanch, Prem Geet, Umrao Jaan, Nikaah, Daulat, Mazdoor, and many others.
On the other hand, October 17, 2024, marks Smita Patil’s 69th birth anniversary.
