The GOAT of all time Amitabh Bachchan has given us some record-breaking films like Sholay, Zanjeer, Deewar, and many others. But, do you know that there is one film of this A-list actor that is still beating all other hit movies? Bachchan has been in the acting industry since 1969. He has made many hits. But there is one movie of his that is still beating all the records made by Prabhas’ Baahubali 2.

To note, Baahubali 2 was released in the theaters on April 28, 2017. This Indian film has made the highest worldwide box office collection of all time by grossing Rs. 1,810 crore. The movie, however, stands second when it comes to India net box office collection with Rs. 1030.42 crore. But, Amitabh Bachchan’s film that’s in question, was made 48 years ago, and has even broken the Baahubali 2‘s record.

We are here talking about Amar Akbar Anthony. The movie is based on the story of three brothers, each raised in different religious households, who reunite after several years in a chance encounter. Starring Big B, Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Parveen Babi and Neetu Singh, Amar Akbar Anthony was a massive success at the time of its release.

This Bachchan starrer film was released back in 1977. According to the reports, Amar Akbar Anthony was made on an estimated budget of Rs 1 crore. The movie bagged a 7.4/10 rating by EMDb, 86% by Rotten Tomatoes, and 7.4/10 by Prime Video.

As per Sacnilk’s data, Amar Akbar Anthony collected Rs. 7.25 crore at India net box office while Rs. 15 crore at worldwide box office. Indeed, Amitabh Bachchan’s Amar Akbar Anthony made over 7X (inflated) the invested amount at India net box office and around 15X (inflated) the invested amount worldwide.

Comparing Amar Akbar Anthony with Baahubali, Prabhas’ film is reportedly made on a budget of Rs. 250 crore. It, therefore minted only around 5.7X the invested amount at the India net box office while only 10X invested amount at the worldwide box office. Therefore, Amitabh Bachchan’s Amar Akbar Anthony is still beats the highest grosser of all time, Baahubali 2.

Amar Akbar Anthony is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video, YouTube with a rented price of Rs. 50 and Google Play Movies with a rented price of Rs. 50. On the other hand, Baahubali 2 can be streamed on JioHotstar, AppleTV and Google Play Movies.
