IMDb has unveiled its highly anticipated list of the 250 highest-rated Indian films of all time, accompanied by a stunning poster showcasing these cinematic gems. This compilation highlights the diverse landscape of Indian cinema, featuring both contemporary hits and timeless classics.

Surprisingly, the number one spot is claimed not by the usual stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, or Rajinikanth, but by the 2023 film 12th Fail. This refreshing choice reflects the evolving tastes of audiences.

The list is a vibrant mix of modern favourites such as Maharaja, Kantara, and Laapataa Ladies, alongside legendary films like Jane Bhi Do Yaaro, Pariyerum Perumal, and Pather Panchali. In total, these 250 films have garnered an impressive 8.5 million votes on IMDb, showcasing the passionate engagement of Indian cinema fans.

But before we reveal IMDb’s highest-rated film, this movie is based on a true story, that doesn’t star big names like Kamal Haasan, Allu Arjun, Thalapathy Vijay, Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan or even Prabhas.  This movie was made with a small budget of Rs 20 crore, the film was ready to be directed by Dunki director, Rajkumar Hirani, but later it was given to Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
