Happy New Year was produced by SRK’s wife, Gauri Khan and was directed by Farah Khan. Being an SRK film, the movie became an instant hit. Made on a budget of Rs 150 crore, it grossed an impressive Rs 397 crore worldwide.
Did you know that besides Deepika, Farah wanted Priyanka Chopra to be a part of the film? However, PC had date conflicts and turned down the movie.
Not only PC, but other actresses were also approached for the film including Sonakshi Sinha, Asin, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Parineeti Chopra, and Katrina Kaif, but none could come on board. For Sonu Sood’s role, Farah initially reached out to John Abraham and Prithviraj Sukumaran, but things did not materialise with them either.
Deepika Padukone was signed by Farah Khan for the movie in 2006. However, Deepika’s work on Om Shanti Om caused yet another delay in the production. Consequently, Happy New Year remained in the pipeline for the next six years. During this time, director Farah was directing other films such as Tees Maar Khan and Om Shanti Om.
