In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood, we often hear about the successful and celebrated work of celebrities who make it to the limelight. But behind an actor’s success, there are fair shares of challenges and struggles that they go through. One such similar case happened when Bollywood’s famous actress faced failure before she tasted massive success and fame.
The actress that we are talking about is none other than Deepika Padukone. One of her films that turned out to be a colossal disaster was Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey.
Released in the year 2010, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey was made on a massive budget of Rs 45 crores but struggled to collect just Rs 5 crores. The film was directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker and featured Abhishek Bachchan as revolutionary Surya Sen and Deepika Padukone as Kalpana Dutta. Sikandar Kher, Firoz Wahid Khan, Shreyas Pandit, Vishakha Singh, Samrat Mukherjee, and Maninder Singh were also in pivotal roles. However, despite the strong star cast and patriotic theme, the film failed to strike a chord with the audience.
The film collected Rs 8 crores worldwide, but collected only Rs 5 crores in India. Critics called it one of the biggest flops of its time, and despite Gowariker’s reputation, the film became a box office disaster.
But despite this massive failure for Deepika, she did not give up. Starting her career with the Kannada film Aishwarya (2006) and making her Bollywood debut in Om Shanti Om (2007) opposite Shah Rukh Khan, she had already established herself as a powerful performer.
Later, Deepika Padukone went on to prove herself even further and transformed into a global star. Her films like Pathaan (2023) and Kalki 2898 AD (2024) crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark worldwide. This also further cemented her status as one of the most bankable names in Indian cinema.
From her film struggling to make Rs 5 crores to crossing the Rs 1000 crore mark, she has come a long way.
