Helmed by Ashutosh Gowariker, Jodhaa Akbar revolved around the story of a Rajput Princes who is forced to marry a Mughal emperor for the well being of her state. She choose to do it but only on her own terms and conditions. The emperor eventually wins her over with his love and affection.
Released in 2008, Jodhaa Akbar proved to be huge hit at the box office. Starring Aishwarya Rai, Hrithik Roshan in the lead roles, the film also featured Ila Arun, Sonu Sood, Poonam Sinha and others in key roles. Made in an estimated budget of Rs 40 crore, the film’s worldwide collection stand at Rs 107.78 crore.
Aishwarya who played the iconic role of Queen Jodhaa in the film, adorned the real gold jewellery, as directed by Gowariker. These exquisite ornaments added an absolute regal appearance to her look, bringing the character to life in the most authentic way.
According to reports, 200 kg of gold was worn by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and around 70 artisans were hired to design the royal piece of jewellery. To ensure the safety of the ornaments, 50 guards were hired to safeguard these valuable assets.
On the 13th anniversary of Jodhaa Akbar, co-producer Sunita Gowariker, who is also Ashutosh Gowariker’s wife, shared some interesting behind-the scenes details about the film. She revealed that 100 elephants auditioned for a specific scene, and Ashutosh had requested this number because elephants were known to be unpredictable. The decision was made with safety in mind, and using real elephants helped reduced the actual expense of VFX.
Prior to Jodhaa Akbar, Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan worked together in Dhoom 2, which released in theatres in 2006.
