This actor's father was an action director, but entering into film industry was never easy for him.

There many actors in the industry who started their career with back-to-back flops, including Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar. However, later, they turned out to be a big superstars. Today, we’ll talk about one such actor who left engineering to enter film industry. His father is an action director, yet his struggle to make debut in films wasn’t that easy. He is married to a superstar and his brother is also currently in films. Well, with these clues, it’s not difficult to recognise that we’re talking about none other than Vicky Kaushal.

Vicky was born on 16 May 1988 in a suburban chawl in Mumbai to Sham Kaushal, an action director in Indian films, and Veena Kaushal, a homemaker. The actor graduated with an engineering degree from Mumbai’s Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology in 2009. However, Vicky revealed that he was always inclined towards art more and decided to pursue his career in acting. He started as an assistant director to Anurag Kashyap in the two part time drama Gangs of Wassepur. Later, he appeared in minor roles in films like Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurrana and Bombay Velvet.

Later, Kaushik’s first leading role was in the independent drama Massan (2015). Masses and critics truly hailed Vicky’s performance. The film turned out to be a flop initially because of poor box office collection, but it later emerged as one of the best movies in Bollywood in recent years. It also starred Shweta Tripathi, Richa Chadha and Sanjay Mishra in lead roles.

In 2018, he gave his first hit opposite Alia Bhatt in Raazi. This marked his successful entry into Bollywood. He continued the success streak with Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju, where he portrayed Ranbir Kapoor’s friend Kamli. His performance garnered widespread acclaim, and the film became a blockbuster. His subsequent film: Uri: The Surgical Strike, also achieved blockbuster status. He has delivered several iconic films, including Sardar Udham,  Sam Bahadur, and Dunki. However, his latest release Bad Newz, performed average at the box office.

Talking about his personal life, Vicky Kaushal married actress Katrina Kaif on 9 December 2021 in a traditional Hindu ceremony. Kaushal’s brother, Sunny Kaushal is also an actor. He made his Bollywood debut by playing the leading role in the 2016 comedy-drama road film Sunshine Music Tours and Travels and the TV Mini-Series Official Chukyagiri.

Vicky reportedly charges Rs 20 crore per film. He has become one of the rising actors in the industry. In 2023, the actor surpassed both Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar at the box office with his films Dunki and Sam Bahadur. Vicky will next appear in Chhaava, a historical epic centered on the life of Maratha Chhatrapti Sambhaji Maharaj.
