Threat To Sonu Nigam’s Life, Mumbai Police Provides Protection To The Singer
The advisory cited that the threat has come from Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Yesterday, the Maharashtra State Intelligence Department issued an advisory of a threat to Sonu Nigam. Apart from the singer, two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs, Ram Kadam and Ashish Shelar were also issued with advisories. Following this, the Mumbai Police has given protection to Nigam as well as the BJP MLAs. According to reports, Lashkar-e-Taiba is the terrorist organisation that has led to the issue of an advisory.
Last year, the singer had made controversial statements about azaan being played in the morning on loudspeakers. During the controversy, Sonu complained of ‘forced religiousness’ on being woken up to the sound of azaan (a mosque’s call to prayer) even though he is not a Muslim. It all began when he tweeted saying, “God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India.” (ALSO READ: Sonu Nigam Azaan row: The singer adds fuel to the controversy by posting video of morning prayer )
The singer also spoke about loudspeakers atop temples and gurudwaras but his anger was being construed as anti-Islam. He was also slammed on the social media for venting out against azaans. Later the singer even quit Twitter after a series of 24 tweets. Nigam complained that there is lack of respect for freedom of speech.
