Karan Johar introduced three amazingly talented actors in Bollywood (Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan) with Student Of The Year (2012). The film struck a chord with the youth and hopes were high when he announced plans for a sequel almost a year ago. However, the film that was supposed to star Tiger Shroff with two female leads – Disha Patani and Jhanvi Kapoor (marking her debut), later replaced by Ananya Pandey, hasn’t started rolling as yet. Speculation is rife about the film being shelved. The fact that Karan Johar went on a spree to announce his upcoming projects under Dharma last week and didn’t mention SOTY 2 was enough to set rumour mills turning. However, contrary to reports that the film is shelved, India.com has exclusively learnt that the project is very much on anvil. To be directed by Punit Malhotra, the film will go on floors somewhere next year, albeit with some major changes. A source privy to the details revealed to India.com, “Student Of The Year 2 is one among Karan Johar’s pet projects and he will definitely make it. However, the makers are mulling over the cast as of now. While it was ready to go on floors with Tiger and two female leads, the makers are reconsidering if they should involved another male star in the cast to make the film more commercially viable. If that happens, the script will have to be revised to incorporate a new character.” Also Read - SSR Case: NCB Arrests Kshitij Ravi Prasad After Hours of Interrogation

The source also pointed that the failure of Tiger Shroff’s past few films might be a reason for this cast overhaul. So while the first part had two male leads and one female lead, SOTY 2 may have a much bigger ensemble cast, with two male and two female leads. Let’s hope the official confirmation happens soon.

For now, KJo will be busy setting the ball rolling for Bhramastra (Ranbir Kapoor, Alia), Shiddat (Varun, Alia) and Kesari (Akshay Kumar). Tiger on the other hand is shooting for Baaghi 2 and also has a YRF film with Hrithik Roshan and Vaani Kapoor up his sleeve.
