Well-known film and theatre actor, Tom Alter, has been diagnosed with cancer. The 67-year old actor, who is best known for his stint on TV shows like Zabaan Sambhalke, Shaktiman and Captain Vyom, is battling bone cancer which is in its fourth stage, sources close to Alter informed the indianexpress.com. Recently the actor was admitted to City Hospital after he complained of body pain. According to some reports, it’s been less than a week that the actor was discharged from City hospital, and now we hear that he is in his last stage of bone cancer.
Alter’s son Jamie Alter confirmed the news but without divulging details of the illness, in a statement to the online entertainment portal that said, “It’s not a good time to talk. I will call you in the evening.” Playwright Sayeed Alam (who has closely collaborated with Alter on several plays) too did not prefer to divulge more details about the actor’s condition, said, “We are all praying for his recovery and I am sure he will recover.” ALSO READ: (Hrithik Roshan Rejects Super 30 Because Of Kangana Ranaut?)
Alter’s upcoming film Redrum A Love Story is underway. The film is helmed by Dhruv Sachdeva, who in a statement to indianexpress.com, said “We haven’t been told to what his health concern is but we know there are health concerns. We spoke to the family last week but they were, perhaps, hesitant to share the detail.” But when the portal informed the director that Alter has been diagnosed with cancer and is in his fourth stage of bone cancer, Sachdeva, who was shocked to hear this piece of information paused for a few seconds, and replied, “I am speechless. This multi-faceted performer has appeared in over 170 films and several Hindi TV shows. Alter has also worked in a Hollywood film – One Night With The King, along side Peter O’Toole. He has even worked with legendary Indian filmmaker, Satyajit Ray in Shatranj Ke Khiladi. Alter, who is an Indian of American descent, is currently being treated in a Mumbai hospital.
