Today we will be talking about this small-budget horror film that shined not just at theatres but is also rated one of the best films on OTT. It’s none other than Demi Moore-starrer The Substance.
Directed by Coralie Fargeat, the horror drama featured Margaret Qualley and Denis Quaid in the supporting cast. The Substance is the story about a fading celebrity who uses black-market drug to temporarily transform herself into much younger version. However, slowly the drug started having unexpected side effects on her body. The film also premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival and received widespread love from audiences. Coralie Fargeat also won the Best Screenplay award at the festival.
Made in $17.5 million ( Rs 1,484,294,000), This satirical body horror film grossed $34.1 million (Rs (2,849,847,651) worldwide. The Substance collected approximately 100 percent more than its budget, undoubtedly achieving great success at the box office.
Despite big releases, The film didn’t fail to make its mark globally. The Substance’s concept on social obsession with youth and beauty was indeed relatable with the audience, making it highly relatable and impactful. IMDB has rated the film 7.4 out of 10.
