Whenever a film goes on the floor, the makers always hope for a successful outcome. However, it’s challenging for anyone to predict whether a movie will perform well at the box office. While some argue that a film’s success entirely depends on its storyline, others believe it hinges on the actors cast in it. Here, we are discussing two films with the same storyline, where one became a cult classic, while the other was a major box office failure.

The story of the Ramayana has been adapted by many filmmakers, resulting in numerous films based on the same narrative. One adaptation, which wasn’t even a live-action film or fully produced in India, became the highest-rated of its kind. The film is Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama, an Indo-Japanese anime created in 1992. Produced in both Hindi and English, it resonated deeply with audiences, earning an impressive IMDb rating of 9.2 out of 10, the highest for any Indian film.

In contrast, another adaptation of the Ramayana, Adipurush, directed by Om Raut, was made on a massive budget of rs 700 crores. However, the expectations of Om Raut and his team for the film to succeed at the box office were not met. Upon its release, the movie faced heavy criticism from both critics and audiences and ultimately failed to generate revenue. According to trade experts, the film incurred an estimated loss of rs 220 crores, falling significantly below expectations.

Why Adipurush Failed at the Box Office

There are several reasons why Adipurush became one of the biggest box office flops. First and foremost was the poor VFX, which received significant criticism for its low quality, with many noting it wasn’t much different from the initial teaser. Additionally, the film’s dialogue was criticized as lackluster, and audiences felt that the plot lacked engagement and intrigue.

Despite featuring a star-studded cast including Prabhas as Lord Ram, Kriti Sanon as Sita, and Saif Ali Khan as Ravan, Adipurush struggled to meet audience expectations.
