Anurag was so surprised with their move that he actually went on to thank CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani & the team for passing the trailer without any cuts.

1. Udta Punjab trailer released without any cuts, but three days later a ‘modified version’ was released:

Udta Punjab trailer had received a good response despite its bold content & the number of cuss words. But, after few days another trailer, actually a censored version of the original one, was released. No clarification was issued on why they made changes in the trailer.

2. CBFC demands to drop all references of Puunjab:

Now, two days back, the news of CBFC asking the Udta Punjab team to drop all reference of Punjab from the film & its title.

Anurag Kashyap was the only person from the film who came forward to speak about the problems they faced with the censor Board. He rebuffed on the social media with a serious of post which clearly vented out his anger for the system.

He blamed Pahlaj Nihalani for acting as a dictator and trying to control everything in the board. Anurag took a dig at Pahlaj saying, “He is an extremely egoistic man. He is like a megalomaniac trying to control everything.” The filmmaker further added, “Pahlaj has an opinion. You can’t have a conversation with him. He just talks and you just have to listen. He just wants to take control of your life. He has been playing God in all the film makers’ lives and those who disagree with him are his enemies.”

Anurag was fighting for the letter which listed all the cuts mentioned by the board. He revealed that Pankaj has purposely not handed them the letter just because they can directly approach the court with an appeal, which he doesn’t want to happen. Since previously, Anurag had approached the tribunal with the list of cuts mentioned by the censor board for his movie Raman Raghav 2.0.

3. Pahlaj Nihalani refuses all claims of Anurag Kashyap; says he is trying to gain publicity for the film:

Now, Pahlaj Nihalani has reverted on the ongoing hullabaloo. He has refused to accept the allegations made by Anurag. He in fact blamed the filmmaker for being associated with Aam Aadmi Party. Pahlaj has accused him of accepting a hefty sum by the political party for creating a controversy about the ban. (ALSO READ: ‘Anurag Kashyap took money from AAP’: Pahlaj Nihalani on ‘Udta Punjab’ controversy )

Pahlaj said, “Picture has been passed but with certain cuts, there is no politics in CBFC. From what I’ve heard, Anurag Kashyap has took money from the Aam Aadmi Party to create the controversy.”

4. Udta Punjab gets ‘A’ certificate but CBFC still demands cuts:

CBFC has granted Udta Punjab ‘A’ certificate. But the makers are not happy with the cuts demanded. Hence they have approached the Bombay High Court for further proceedings.

Udta Punjab is slated to hit the silver screens on 17 June 2016. The movie is produced by Ekta Kapoor under their banner Balaji Motion Pictures & Phantom Films collectively. It features Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor and Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanjh in lead roles.

Will this censorship battle delay the release of Udta Punjab? Will the team win their battle against CBFC and release the film without any cuts? Or will they have to give up to the censor boards requests in order to release the film on the mentioned date.
