Central Board of Film Certification is once again receiving their much needed “love and appreciation” from twitterati’s over the Udta Punjab censorship issue. After the board, allegedly suggested 89 cuts in the movie and asked makers to not use the reference of ‘Punjab‘ in the title of the movie, film lovers have been tweeting their praise to CBFC.
Suggesting 89 cuts in a movie is basically like tempering the important essence of the film and artistic expression of the story telling. This not for the first time censor board is facing the heat of audience. Earlier also, the controversial head of CBFC, Pahlaj Nilahani has been one of the favourites of twitter trolls for their senseless cuts and censors on movies like Mohalla Assi, a movie based on commercialization of Varanasi, a Kashmir-set movie titled Kaafiron ki Namaaz apparently had to be released on Youtube. These illustrations of censoring and restricting art in dictatorial way, leaves film makers with no choice but express their angst and release the movies independently. Anurag Kashyap, took his angst to twitter and tweeted that he doesn’t find any difference between India and North Korea. He has also tweeted to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaving no stones unturned to draw PM’s attention towards the stupidity of CBFC.
