Controversies and personal life are commonplace in the film and glamour world. However, this time, the subject of discussion isn’t a Bollywood or South Indian actress, but rather a renowned Pakistani actress, Mehwish Hayat. Known for her beauty and acting, Mehwish was linked to a highly controversial figure, underworld don and India’s most wanted criminal, Dawood Ibrahim, sparking a new controversy in her career. Scroll down to learn how Mehwish’s name became linked to Dawood Ibrahim and how she became embroiled in controversy.
Mehwish Hayat is considered one of the most successful and highest-paid actresses in the Pakistani film and TV industry. She has won the hearts of millions of viewers with her films. Her film career began in 2015 with “Jawani Phir Nahi Ani.” She subsequently starred in blockbuster comedies like “Actor in Law” (2016), “Punjab Nahi Jaungi” (2017), “Load Wedding” (2018), and “London Nahi Jaungi” (2022). These films are among Pakistan’s highest-grossing films and have established Mehwish as a successful commercial actress. While her career took off, the actress’s name became embroiled in controversies.

In 2019, when Mehwish Hayat was awarded the prestigious civilian honour “Tamgha-e-Imtiaz” by the Pakistani government, her name began to be linked to Dawood Ibrahim. Rumors circulated that she received this honour with the underworld don’s assistance. Some reports even claimed that Dawood Ibrahim was impressed by her performance in an item number and helped her secure prominent roles in the Pakistani film industry. Around the time Mehwish’s career was taking off, there were rumors that Dawood was based in Pakistan. However, Mehwish has never publicly commented on this matter.
Another interesting aspect of her career came to light when news broke that she was being shortlisted for the role of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the Bollywood film “Fanney Khan.” However, this didn’t materialize, and Aishwarya Rai eventually played the role. In fact, at that time, Pakistani actors were banned from being cast in films. This certainly made it clear that Mehwish was being taken seriously in Bollywood.
In addition to acting, Mehwish Hayat’s keen interest in politics has also been a topic of discussion. In an interview, she openly expressed her desire to one day become the Prime Minister of Pakistan. She argued, “If a cricketer like Imran Khan can become the Prime Minister of a country, why not an actor?” She believes that actors should enter politics to bring about positive change in society. Mehwish has also openly expressed her views on many political issues and the India-Pakistan conflict. She is quite vocal on social media.
