Loved Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya? Now you have Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya starring your favourite jodi of Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. What makes this sequel all the more interesting is that these stars, who are totally fun to watch on screen and who share amazing on reel chemistry, are all set to recreate the hit song Tamma Tamma from 1990 action drama Thanedaar. The original starred Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit and went on to become a cult hit and a dance anthem.
The original track was created none other than pop sensation Bappi Lahiri and Anuradha Paudwal. Thankfully, the makers of Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya have retained the original voices for the reprised version and have had Badshah to add a touch of hip hop and rap. No guesses then that the song will be a peppy dance number. We hear that Varun and Alia will shoot for the song this week and it will be choreographed by Bosco Martis. Badrinath Ki Dulhania is directed by Shashank Khaitan and will release on March 10, 2017. However, this is not the only recreated version of Tamma Tamma that we will get to see in 2017. No, we are not suggesting the song’s inclusion in Sanjay Dutt’s biopic directed by Rajkumar Hirani starring Ranbir Kapoor. Although that may be possible and very very interesting as well. Apparently, a version of ‘Tamma Tamma’ will also be part of Commando 2 starring Vidyut Jammwal, Freddy Daruwala, Esha Gupta and Adah Sharma. This song has already been filmed and has the same disco feel to it with the stars wearing OTT, blingy costumes. While only time will tell which one wins a thumbs up from us, here’s an interesting fact about the how the original Tamma Tamma starring Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit was shot.
In an earlier interview to Times of India, choreographer Saroj Khan, who has been the woman behind some of Madhuri’s best dance numbers, recalled the making of the song ‘Tamma Tamma’ from Thanedaar. She was quoted as saying, “We started shooting at 10 am for the song and the shot got ready at 10 pm.” Now, we all know that Sanju Baba is not a great dancer. No wonder then, it must have been a task to get him to match his step with ace dancer Madhuri. Saroj Khan further revealed, “The song had a piece with chair as a prop, where Madhuri encouraged Sanjay Dutt to dance to his capacity because the piece wouldn’t have been fun had they not danced together. The first shot got okayed in the 28th take, but the cap rolled down from her foot, where it was supposed to stay. By then, both Madhuri and Sanjay’s knees were bruised and bleeding.”
However, both the stars didn’t give up and went on shooting for the song despite their bleeding knees. “They weren’t ready to listen. They said, ‘no masterji we will do it.’ We decided to give it another shot, which finally got okayed in the 48th take, after the cap decided to stick in its desired place,” revealed the master choreographer.
Here’s taking a look at the original wonder for nostalgia’s sake!
