Badlapur had revealed a side of Varun Dhawan that not many of us had seen before, and while people were sceptical of the actor being able to do justice to his role in director Sriram Raghavan’s dark and intrepid movie, he proved them wrong. Until a few days ago reports suggested that the sequel to the movie would have Deepika Padukone playing the role of the main protagonist. However, if recent reports are to be believed, Varun has already been roped in for the project.

A source close to the actor told DNA that the 30-year-old actor has signed two big films, one being Shoojit Sarkar’s next and the second one being Badlapur 2, which will be directed by Raghavan once again. Apparently, the actor is in talks with the director for another one of his movies. “Though the actor enjoys his commercial successes like Badrinath Ki Dulhaniyan, he loves to tread the dark, edgy genre and is keen to be part of Badlapur 2 script again. The sequel, though based in Badlapur, will be a completely different story and not related to the first one. And while the makers may repeat Nawazuddin Siddiqui, lead actresses Huma Qureshi and Yami Gautam won’t be part of the film,” the source added.

Earlier, Deepika had reportedly agreed to play the role of an anti-heroine in the sequel and while talks had already taken place between the actress and the movie’s producer, Dinesh Vijan, it didn’t see the light of the day, as the script failed to meet expectations. “Sriram and Varun have shared a great equation and both are keen to work together again. Sriram starts his film with Ayushmann Khurrana on June 14, and will start Badlapur 2 after that — early next year. Ironically, Varun’s other film is the maker who launched Ayushmann,” the source said. (ALSO READ: Shraddha Kapoor to begin training in badminton for Saina biopic from Prakash Padukone academy)

Varun is expected to start shooting his films this year itself.   Judwaa 2, the sequel to the iconic Salman Khan starrer movie, with Varun as the lead opposite Taapsee Pannu and Jacqueline Fernandez is also likely to release in September this year.
