Veteran Actress Shammi Passes Away At 89, Amitabh Bachchan Pays Homage In His Latest Tweet

The actress dies at 89.

Veteran Bollywood and television actress Shammi, who is best known for her comic roles, passed away today morning (March 6, 2018). She was reportedly suffering from an illness since a long time now and breathed her last at her Juhu Circle home. The actress, who fondly addressed as ‘Shammi aunty’, had appeared in over 200 films that included Coolie No 1, Hum, Gopi Kishan, Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Jab Jab Phool Khile, Preet Na Jane Reet, Aamne – Saamne, Upkar, Ittefaq, among others, over her long film career.

After Sridevi, ace veteran actress passed away at the age of 89. Famed fashion designer Sandeep Khosla revealed the news on Instagram. Alongside the picture of Shammi aunty, he wrote, “wewillmissyou #you #will #always #remain #special #to #us #RIP #ShammiAunty #1929-2018 #loveyou #abujanisandeepkhosla #bestfriend #guide #family.” Amitabh Bachchan also took to Twitter to mourn her death, as he posted, “T 2735 – Shammi Aunty. prolific actress, years of contribution to the Industry, dear family friend. passes away! A long suffered illness, age. Sad. slowly slowly they all go away.”

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan too paid homage in his latest tweet. The actor, who is deeply saddened by the demise of the veteran actress, took to his social media handle to share the news on Tuesday morning and wrote, “T 2735 – Shammi Aunty .. prolific actress, years of contribution to the Industry, dear family friend .. passes away ..!! On her personal front, Shammi was married to film producer-director Sultan Ahmed for seven years before they were divorced. The actress made her debut in Bollywood with Malhar as a solo heroine, which was bankrolled by playback singer Mukesh.
