Vikatan Awards 2019: Dhanush Wins Best Actor, Trisha Krishnan Wins Best Actress
While 2.0 won the Best Popular Film Award, Merku Thodarchi Malai won the Best Film Award. It also won the Best Debut Director Award for Lenin Barathi.
While the West was busy with Golden Globe Awards 2019, the Tamil film industry celebrated Vikatan Awards 2019. The prestigious film awards happened last night in Chennai and winning big at the event were Kaala, Vada Chennai and 96. The awards were given for various categories like Best Film, Best Actor (Male and Female), Best Comedy Actor (Male and Female), Best Screenplay Writer, Best Dialogue Writer, Best Popular Film, Best Supporting Actor (Male and Female) among others.
While 2.0 won the Best Popular Film Award, Merku Thodarchi Malai won the Best Film Award. It also won the Best Debut Director Award for Lenin Barathi. Mari Selvaraj, on the other hand, was awarded Best Director for Pariyerum Perumal. The film also won the Best Story Award.

Vada Chennai, which was also liked by the audience widely, received two awards – Best Screenplay and Best Art Direction for art director Jackie. The Vetrimaaran directorial also bagged Best Actor Award for Dhanush and Best Supporting Actor Award for Ameer. Trisha Krishnan received the Best Actress Award for her performance in 96.
