The makers of Fanney Khan had been riddled by whom to cast opposite Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Names the likes of R Madhavan, Rajkummar Rao, and Vicky Kaushal were among the most prominent ones. Although Madhavan was all but finalised, it was Rajkummar Rao who won the race to land the role. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra tweeted, “#FanneyKhan @AnilKapoor @RajkummarRao @divyadutta25 @TSeries @kriarj #Ash welcome aboard Raj tighten your seat belt for the roller coaster.”Also Read - Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Announces Wrap-Up of Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan, Movie To Release In 2022
Reportedly, Madhavan was the favourite to land the role, but couldn’t work out his dates for the film. He was quoted saying, “I loved the script and was really keen to be part of an interesting ensemble like Fanney Khan, unfortunately, I couldn’t commit to the project due to date issues. However, the exclusion of Madhavan may be the best of interest for both parties since the remuneration demanded by him, which is reportedly Rs 1.5 crores for a 15-day shoot, was deemed too steep by the makers. As the makers felt that the amount was not justified, a source informs, “The plan is to make the film within a certain budget and the price quoted by Maddy didn’t align with that. It was mutually decided he couldn’t be part of the film and Rajkummar Rao was brought in immediately.” Also Read - Aishwarya Rai Bachchan-Abhishek Bachchan With Aaradhya Groove To 'Desi Girl' At Cousin's Wedding | Watch
Madhavan’s loss turned out to be Rajkummar’s gain. The actor expressed his excitement on romancing Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. He said, “I am super-excited to be working with her (Aishwarya). I’ll start preparing for my part in Fanney Khan the moment I am done shooting for my film on Subhash Chandra Bose.” The film will star Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Rajkummar Rao in the lead roles. The film is slated for an April 2018 release.
