Sridevi is often hailed as Hindi cinema’s first female superstar. Before settling down into marriage and motherhood, she was among the busiest actresses, constantly engaged in shoots and commercials. While she was quite specific about her work and wellness regimen, the actress also had her own likes and dislikes when it came to food. In a recent interview, Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi, who used to work at Juhu’s popular Centaur hotel shared some interesting never-heard-stories of Bollywood celebrities during those times.

The hotel may be shut now, but once it was a favourite hangout spot for film stars. “Sabse bada (adda tha). We have seen Dharmendra’s son’s wedding, we have seen awards, we have seen Madhuri Dixit’s rise. She would come to the Chinese restaurant. We have seen all this. Full Bollywood used to be there,” the chef said on Siddharth Kannan’s YouTube channel.

Sridevi stayed at same hotel for two years

During the same conversation, Harpal Singh disclosed that Sridevi had a permanent room at this hotel and stayed there for two years straight. He revealed, “She would stay at the hotel for two years at a stretch. She had a fixed room. But she wouldn’t eat there. Her food was brought in specially from a place called Harish. They had great Mangalorean food. Her spot boy would bring her a special tiffin with fish curry and all, but she would only have daal and steamed rice from the hotel.”

Amitabh Bachchan would visit the same place

He also recalled how the Bachchan family often visited Centaur Hotel’s Indian restaurant. Chef said, “I still remember, when Amitabh ji would eat, and if there was any food left on his son’s plate, he would scold him: ‘Abhishek! Finish what is there in your plate. The plate should be empty.’ He would say, ‘No, I’m full.’ His father would say, ‘Why did you take it?’ I remember this very clearly.”
