A fresh name is making waves in Bihar’s 2025 election cycle, Divya Gautam, who has been nominated by the INDIA alliance to contest from the Digha seat in Patna. Her candidacy blends activism, academia, and a surprising connection to Bollywood.
Divya Gautam is the cousin of the late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, but she’s clear about not wanting to ride on that legacy. A seasoned theatre artist and former AISA (All India Students’ Association) leader, she has a strong background in journalism and mass communication. Before entering electoral politics, she worked as an assistant professor and also served in the state’s food & consumer protection department. After her nomination, she said in a interview, “I have never used his name in my politics… I don’t want to color his name the way others may try to.”
Academically, she holds both bachelor’s and post‑graduate degrees in Journalism and Mass Communication from Patna College / Patna University. She has also worked as an assistant professor at Patna Women’s College. In addition, she served in a government role as a supply inspector for Bihar’s Food & Consumer Protection Department.
As a fresh face in Bihar’s political landscape, Divya has positioned herself as a representative of grassroots change. Her priorities include tackling local problems like a lack of street lighting, poor drainage, and infrastructure woes in Digha. She also addressed concerns about internal coalition tensions, assuring that all is well within the INDIA alliance. Though she recognizes her familial ties, she emphasizes that her path in politics is built on values, not celebrity.
Divya Gautam’s political journey is rooted in activism, education, and public service rather than celebrity connections. Despite her familial link to Sushant Singh Rajput, she has carved her own path, grounded in grassroots issues and academic credibility.
