Social media has often turned ordinary people into overnight stars, but very few stories have the emotional depth. His rendition of “Dil Par Chali Chhuriyan” made him a household name, but behind the fame lies a tale of hardship and resilience. Yes, you guessed it right! We are talking about Raju Kalakar.
Raju Kalakar (real name Raju Bhat) rose from the dusty lanes of Nagaur and puppet shows in Surat to national attention when a friend captured him singing “Dil Pe Chalai Churiyaan” while rhythmically tapping two broken stones. That raw, soulful performance went viral in June 2025, earning over a hundred million views and turning him into a symbol of heartfelt artistry and honest struggle.
According to the reports of Mid-day, Director Rocky Mulchandani recalls that when he first met Raju, he was deeply moved. Raju once helped his father in a small doll-making business, but debts mounted so high that the family nearly collapsed. At his lowest, his wife walked away. Yet, instead of breaking, Raju worked harder, rebuilt the business, and even managed to win her back.
Rocky puts it simply, “These days marriages end over small issues, but Raju showed that love can survive if you fight for it.”
And now, according to several media reports, that extraordinary journey of grit and survival is set to be recreated on the big screen.
The script is still being polished, but two names are on the director’s wishlist: Pratik Gandhi and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Rocky had earlier worked with Pratik in a 2020 ad film and feels his raw energy could suit the role. Nawazuddin, on the other hand, is known for his unmatched ability to transform into any character, making him another strong contender.
If either actor signs on, the film will likely bring a balance of realism and intensity, qualities central to Raju’s journey.
The makers are eyeing a November start for the shoot. With Rocky Mulchandani at the helm, the story aims to go beyond just music or viral fame, focusing instead on grit, survival, and second chances.
For an industry where biopics usually revolve around freedom fighters, sports icons, or political legends, this one is refreshingly different. It captures the rise of a man who came from nothing, stumbled, and still found his way back — thanks to hope, love, and song.
Unlike larger-than-life tales, Raju’s story is relatable. It’s about failures, broken relationships, and financial struggles — things most people understand. But it’s also about the extraordinary courage it takes to stand back up and keep singing, even when life tries to silence you.
This is what makes the biopic stand out: it is not just about fame, it is about faith in oneself.
